New Iberia– Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Bertrella “Bert” Young, 92, on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 3:00PM at the David Funeral Home Chapel of New Iberia, with Fr. Keith Landry officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 from 10:00AM until the time of the service. A Rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on at 2:00PM followed by a eulogy.
A native of Fenton and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Young, a devoted Catholic, dedicated a significant part of her life to her faith and community. For several years, she served as a Eucharistic Minister, exemplifying her commitment to her spiritual beliefs. Beyond her religious contributions, Mrs. Young shared a deep connection with her husband, Allen, and together they explored the United States through their shared love of travel. Their adventures created cherished memories that added vibrancy to their long and loving partnership.
In addition to her role as a loving wife and travel companion, Mrs. Young was a compassionate caregiver to her mother, husband, and grandchildren. Her unwavering presence and selfless support made her a cornerstone in the lives of those she cared for. Mrs. Young's gentle personality endeared her to many, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. Her active involvement in various activities at her recent home, Azalea Estates, is a testament to her vibrant spirit and the positive impact she had on the communities she was part of. Mrs. Young's memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia “Cindy” Trahan of New Iberia, Myra “Lynn” Miller of Lake Charles, David Young and wife Sonnia of Erath, Kenny Young of New Iberia; grandchildren, Jay Trahan, Devon Trahan, Nicholas Trahan, Lyndsay Trahan, Lance Miller, Laura Hebert, Tara Lipari, Caleb Young, Hannah Young, Krysta Myers, Kyler Young; 19 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild with 1 more great great grandchild on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Young; parents, Theogian and Louisa Pousson Fontenot; siblings, Anna Manuel, John Fontenot, Odis Fontenot, Marie Breaux, Wilmer Fontenot; and sons-in-law, Jerry Trahan and Jerry Miller.
Honored to serve as Pallbearers are David Young, Kenny Young, Caleb Young, Lance Miller, Nicholas Trahan, Grant Myers, and Isaac Andre. Honorary Pallbearers will be Devon Trahan and Kyler Young.
The family would like to thank the staff of Azalea Estates Assisted Living and personal caregivers Connie, Sheryl, Rose, Trula, Val, Laura, Arianna, Tee-Tee for all of their care and compassion.
